By installing a 40 kilowatt (kW) on-grid solar power system at a general secondary school in Lachin, Helind Enerji took an important step in the region's energy supply. The main goal of the project is to meet the school's electricity demand with solar energy and keep long-term energy costs to a minimum.
Technical specifications:
- Number of solar panels: 74
- Panel power: 550 W each
- Total system power: 40 kW
- System type: On-grid (connected to the electricity grid)
What is an on-grid system?
On-grid systems generate electricity with solar panels installed on a building's roof or on the ground and feed this energy directly into the national grid. For buildings that are active during the day, such as a school, this is the ideal choice: the energy collected from the sun during the day is used immediately and the surplus goes to the grid. At night or in cloudy weather, the school keeps drawing power from the grid.
This technology brings two main advantages:
- A significant drop in monthly electricity costs
- Selling back or balancing the surplus energy produced
Equipment used
The installed panels have high output and were chosen to perform optimally in the Lachin region, where solar radiation is intense. These 550 W panels are made with modern technology and offer high heat resistance and low energy losses.
The inverters integrated into the system convert the direct current (DC) produced by the solar panels into alternating current (AC), making it usable for the school's electrical system and the grid. This conversion is highly precise and energy losses are kept to a minimum.
Social and environmental significance of the project
This project stands out not only for its technical and financial benefits but also for its environmental contribution. Every year, the system will avoid about 35 tons of carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions. That is roughly equal to the annual carbon absorption of 1,400 trees.
The project can also become a hands-on teaching tool about clean energy for students. The school can offer practical lessons on how solar panels work, how energy is produced and how to protect the environment.
Helind Enerji continues to expand alternative energy projects across Azerbaijan's regions. This project in Lachin is valuable to us both technically and socially.
