This Investment Will Increase Your Real Estate Value: Solar Power & Net Metering
A New Opportunity for Property Owners
Alternative energy producers in Azerbaijan can now transfer unused electricity to the "Azerishig" Open Joint Stock Company (OJSC) grid. This allows them to either sell the energy or swap it against their future consumption from the grid.
This process begins with the registration of "Active Consumers" (individuals who produce electricity from renewable sources while also consuming it) by Azerishig ASC. Experts confirm that this support mechanism not only encourages owners of courtyard houses, villas, and summer residences to use renewable sources but also significantly increases the market price of real estate equipped with these systems.

Expert Insight: Why Is This Profitable?
Orkhan Guluzade, CEO of Helind Energy, explains a common issue faced by homeowners before this regulation:
"Previously, energy generated by solar panels in summer houses or villas was often wasted because the owners were not home during the day to use it. This reduced interest in alternative energy."
How the Support Mechanism Solves This: With the new system, when the homeowner is away (or when a business facility has low consumption), the excess energy generated by the panels is sent to the national grid.
-
The Benefit: When the owner returns home or consumption increases, they get that energy back from the grid free of charge.
Changing the Real Estate Market
According to Orkhan Guluzade, while off-grid systems were previously popular in remote areas without central power, the trend has shifted. Now, properties close to the grid are rushing to install renewable energy sources.
For those buying, building, or renovating real estate, installing a solar system has become a key factor in increasing property value.
"Imagine making an investment in your unoccupied summer house that literally 'turns your electricity meter back' and allows you to get electricity for free, year after year," the head of Helind emphasizes.
Who Can Benefit and How to Apply?
The mechanism for supporting active consumers is applied based on rules approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.
-
Eligibility: Individuals or legal entities generating up to 150 kW (inclusive) of electricity from renewable sources on their property (home, facility, or object).
-
Registration: Those wishing to benefit from the state support mechanism must register with the required documents at ASAN Kommunal.
