Installing solar panels is a 25–30 year investment. But in recent years, as solar energy companies in Baku and the regions have multiplied quickly, so has the number of unprofessional "seasonal" groups that just buy and resell. So what should you look out for so as not to put your investment at risk and to find a truly reliable company? Don't decide without going through this checklist of 7 questions you should always ask companies when you meet them.

📌 Key points

  • The installer matters as much as the equipment: even the most expensive panels can deliver 30% less energy with poor engineering.
  • Look for an engineer, not a handyman: check whether the company has a specialized in-house engineering team and design department.
  • An invisible danger: only companies with their own laboratory can detect internal micro-cracks in panels.
  • Official partnership: for genuine equipment and a real warranty, work only with official distributors of Tier-1 brands.

A 7-step checklist for choosing a company

Before signing a contract with any solar energy company, ask these questions and insist on answers:

1. "Do you have an engineering team, or are you just installers?"

Most companies on the market work only with "installer" technicians. But solar energy requires electrical, structural and aerodynamic calculations. Drawing up the design, shading analysis and finding the right angle must be done only by professional engineers.

2. "Do you have your own laboratory for testing panels?" (the most critical question)

This is the key question that separates a real specialist from an amateur. Panels can pick up micro-cracks invisible to the eye during transport. A damaged panel creates a fire risk a few years after installation. What sets Helind Enerji apart is that in our own laboratory we put every panel through EL (electroluminescence) testing equipment before installation.

3. "Are you an official partner of the brands you use?"

A company may offer you a well-known brand, but where did they get it? The factory warranty doesn't apply to devices brought in through unofficial channels. Ask the company to show you its "Tier-1 official partner" certificate (for example, for Huawei, SolaX, Growatt).

4. "How do you calculate the roof's static load?"

The wind load and weight of the panels can collapse your roof. A reliable company should not lift a single panel onto your roof without checking the structure and running static calculations in specialized software.

5. "How does the process work in a warranty case?"

A company may say "25-year warranty". But if the inverter fails, will they send it abroad for repair and leave you without power for months? Ask: "Do you have a spare parts warehouse, and do you handle warranty service with your own in-house specialists?"

6. "What standard are the basic components (cables, protection devices)?"

The panels may be excellent, but cheap cables and poor-quality circuit breakers expose the whole property to fire risk. Make sure only fire-resistant "solar-type" (DC) cables are used.

7. "What is your after-sales monitoring like?"

The job doesn't end once the panels are installed. A reliable company monitors the system it built remotely online, steps in as soon as it sees efficiency dropping and reminds you of servicing (for example, cleaning) on time.

❓ Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

Q: Why are some companies' prices far below the market?

A: Very low prices usually come from non-Tier-1, B- or C-grade (second-hand or defective) panels, cuts in engineering costs and the use of aluminium and cables that don't meet standards. That's not saving; it's a future cost.

Q: How can I tell whether a company really has an engineer?

A: Ask them for a "Simulation and Shading Analysis" report before the project. This report is prepared in dedicated engineering software and can't be produced by amateurs.
