What Is A Bifacial Solar Panel?

Bifacial Solar Panels is one of the most innovative and spectacular projects of recent years. Thus, with the launch of this type of panel, which has made a breakthrough in the alternative energy sector, the energy efficiency of solar energy has increased many times. The nuance that makes it so productive is the absorption of sunlight from both sides (rear and front) of this type of solar panels. Bifacial Solar Panels, which we present to you as Helind LLC, differ from many products on sale due to their quality and energy efficiency.

What Are The Main Features Of These Panels?

Bifacial solar panels are mainly available in dark blue and black tones. These types of solar panels have high energy efficiency due to the fact that they are two-sided, as mentioned above.
Double-sided solar panel models have been on the market for some time, but have not yet become popular. However, these types of panels are very suitable for BIPV projects in shady areas or one of the types of panels integrated into buildings.

In addition, it can be used on highways, railways and similar places where standard solar panels will be difficult to install. When double-sided solar panels are placed vertically and in an east-west direction, they can produce energy at a level very close to that of single-sided solar panels placed at an optimal angle to the south. This feature provides more opportunities during the design and installation stages to minimize the area required for panel placement.

When Do These Panels Produce Better Energy?

Although bifacial solar panels provide some advantages in different forms of installation. The greatest energy efficiency still comes from the fact that, like single-sided panels, they are placed at an optimal angle to the south. Because these models can generate electricity from both the front and rear, the energy efficiency is equal to the sum of the energy produced from the front and rear. We all know that for maximum energy efficiency in normal solar panels, it is necessary to prevent the shadows from falling on the panels. When double-sided solar panel models are used, however, what is under the panels also has certain effects on energy performance.

As the reflectivity of the surface increases, so does the energy efficiency of the panels. One of the most important factors that increase the efficiency of double-sided solar panels is the use of reflectors that reflect light to the back of the panel. According to the tests conducted as an example, the reflectivity of gray concrete is 30%, while for white concrete surfaces this reflectance is in the range of 80-90%. That is, when using bifacial panels, it is necessary to pay attention to the material in the background of the panel.

Some Research Samples on the Energy Productivity of That Panels

So far, many tests have been conducted on the performance of bifacial solar panels. One of them was tested in Hokkaido, Japan. Hokkaido is known as a city with a cold climate in the north of the country. There is a lot of snow in this region. In the test conducted here, two alternative power systems, each with a capacity of 3 kW, were installed at an angle of 35 degrees to the south. One of the systems is located in a field of grass, and the other in an area with broken shells on the ground. The shells were used because they were plentiful in the area and cheaper.

In winter, snow is a reflection of both systems. According to the data collected from the winter season to the summer, the average productivity of the system built on split shells (maximum) was 13.5% higher than that built on grass, and 23.6% higher than on one-sided panels. In February and March, when the surface was covered with snow, the average productivity of double-sided panels was 23.9% higher than standard panels.

That is, in the winter months, snow can play an incredible productivity role for this type of panels. The performance of double-sided models can vary in terms of the height of the panels from the ground and the effect of its angle on the light falling on the back. These panels should be placed in such a way that the panels cast as little shadow as possible on the reflector in the background and do not reduce energy efficiency.
